Educational Requirements to Become an Certified

Certificate programs are of one year and is a perfect option for those who are already qualified to work in health care industry, such as radiology and nursing. Entry requirements for certification program requires an associate degree in other health care field.

Associates’ Degree is a two-year training program that provides a strong education foundation and practical skills required to become an ultrasound technician. The sample courses in the training program includes principles and concepts of sonography, abdominal sonography, sectional sonography, sectional sonography and equipment used in ultrasound.

Bachelors’ Degree is a two or four year program that offers specialized training in more technical areas of sonography. A bachelor’s degree ensures better job prospectives.

Certification and licensing-Some states require certification before applying for state license. While licensing and certification is not required in every state, some clinics and hospitals hire technicians who have obtained certification in the field. The certification test is a two-hour test including both multiple choice questions and situational based questions. Once the certification is obtained, the field opens more job opportunities for those looking for a successful career in sonography.
